The Promise Series
“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (1)
What is the fulfilment of the curse? The unveiling of the true desires of the heart. How to overcome the curse? Sacrifice the desires and true inclinations of the heart. We are living in a curse already. The curse of Adam and Eve. The curse of sin and the consequence of death. The curse of being cast out of The Garden (2). We were all born into this curse. The curse of the heart. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree DESIRABLE to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. (3). Everyone has inherited the curse of Adam and Eve through the seed of Adam passed down from generation to generation.
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake... Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”(4)
The curse of sin and disobedience. The curse of the heart. So is the curse bad after all? Is being cursed really a bad thing? I mean the earth has been spinning around the sun for many moons now I guess and has it really been that bad? Well the curse is definitely the new normal after the events of The Garden and naturally inherited upon each one brought into existence, born of man. There is no escaping it. The intrinsic binding of all curses is that all men sin.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (5)
Well if a curse is normal and universally inherited… should we accept it and live with it and all its inheritance from generation to generation? ‘The LORD is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.’ (6). The inheritance of a family curse. The inheritance of a cursed love life full of failed mismatched relationships, unplanned pregnancies and infidelity. The inheritance of misery, poverty and shame... But it’s not always doom and gloom. Whereas, some inherit the extremity of curses of misery, poverty, shame and a life of filth from generation to generation. Others, inherit a blessed life full of values, discipline, success and character passed down through their family from generation to generation like the blessings that Noah bestowed upon his sons as they had exited the Ark, inheriting a new world.
Yet a third of their generation was cursed in Ham when he initiated the simulation of malice, disdain and disrespect towards his father in uncovering his nakedness. A programming that would then be wired into his seed that would come forth from him. The curse of malice and disdain and the consequences that would be inherited with this behavioural simulation.
Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. So Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him. Then he said: “CURSED be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brethren.” And he said: “Blessed be the LORD, The God of Shem, And may Canaan be his servant. May God enlarge Japheth, And may he dwell in the tents of Shem; And may Canaan be his servant.” (7)
So how to overcome the curse? Sacrifice. Yes the curse can only come upon the ones who open up themselves to it, open up their hearts to its lustful allure. Whether in ignorance or knowingly. The curse will always find its victims like a leech seeking the scent of blood. A look, an inclination, a craving, a desire. We overcome the curse firstly when we are aware of it and seek help, seek our Defence (8). Secondly after arming ourselves with this awareness and enlightenment through the help of the Word of God (9) and the Spirit of the Word, the Holy Spirit. We then need to sacrifice our desires and inclinations in order for the curse to not fulfil its programming that has us as a target...
Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”(10)
The curse is programmed for one thing and one thing only... that is to fulfil its programming. To execute the judgement of the death sentenced at the beginning of time in The Garden. The thief came to steal, kill and to destroy but I came that they may have life and life more abundantly (11). However Jesus showed us the Way, The Truth and the Life (12). The Way to be free from all curses. Jesus showed us and demonstrated the path to overcome all curses. The Cross. Sacrifice… and what is it about sacrifice that frees us from all curses once we become aware of them?
Well Jesus was the Son of God, The Promised Seed since the Garden of Eden (13). The Promised Seed that would come to confront this curse of sin deceitfully simulated by the tricks and treats of the sneaky snake to an innocent and naive Adam and Eve. Jesus showed us this first step in that He was aware of the curse that had been initiated upon man since the Garden in Eden when the simulation of death was initiated through sin which was disobedience to God their Father. When Adam and Eve decided they no longer wanted to listen and keep the advice from their Father who warned them of the consequences of death and separation that would come if they chose for themselves to eat from the fruit that He advised them not to eat not even to touch according to Eve.
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ (14)
So after these events unfolded God made a Promise to set out on a plan to confront and defeat this curse initiated by the sneaky snake. So the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”(13). This confrontation happened with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ which the serpent thinking he had defeated the Son of God by crucifying Him only fulfilled the prophesy when Jesus the Son of God resurrected from the grave crushing the head of death, sin and the serpent when He overcame as the blameless precious Lamb of God (15). That even though He was good and innocent made Himself a Sacrifice for us. To show us the Way, the Truth and the Life (12). So that we may follow in His footsteps and be free from the curse of sin and death. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (16)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.(17)
Through Jesus and His demonstration of love. Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”(18) Through His Sacrifice we can know the Way in order to overcome the curse. The curse of sin and the death that it brings. The death of sadness, addiction, arguments, fights, separation, abuse, infidelity, unfaithfulness and shame. First there must be an awareness that a curse is present and in motion seeking out its victim by whatever means. Secondly, the Cross which is Sacrifice. Jesus showed us the Way to be free from all curses in our lives when He made Himself a curse so we would not have to be. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” (19) He confronted the impending doom of all mankind beyond our own awareness when He condemned sin on the cross in that He was without sin. Yet He allowed Himself to be crucified, sacrificed Himself unjustly, dying for us so that we would be saved if we follow in His footsteps. Sacrifice...When the curse comes to fulfil its purpose in your life... sacrifice. How? What does that mean? How does sacrificing revoke curses? The curse is a fruit and simulation of the heart and its' desires.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (1)
Jesus overcame the curse when He firstly lived a life of sacrifice by not committing sin and was blameless. He did not fulfil the evil inclination or lust of His heart but did everything to please the Father. Lastly He overcame through forgiveness. He allowed Himself being the Son of God to be mistreated wrongly, accused and condemned and still in the end prayed for His accusers and forgave them. Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”(18) In doing this He condemned sin. He condemned sin by showing the Way the Truth and the Life; that it is possible to sacrifice the whims of our heart and our wicked inclinations that leads to the fulfilment and initiation of the curses that we inherit from generation to generation.
The curse of adultery from generation to generation. The curse of unfaithfulness. The curse of failure and poverty due to laziness and selfishness. The curse that comes with vengeance and unforgiveness, that can even sentence its victims to prison both physically and mentally. All curses that are stimulated by the lust of the heart. The inclinations and desires. Like it happened to Adam and Eve. When Eve was first tempted by the lust of her heart for more power persuaded and tricked for a treat by the sneaky snake.
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. (14)
So how to overcome curses? Sacrifice. When we sacrifice the heart as Jesus showed us when we sacrifice our inclinations and desires like Eve was not able to do. So that we live a life free from sin. We naturally fulfil a life free from curses. But guess what it’s not wholly possible whilst we are still in this tent (20). Remember there is not a man who is without sin and that we are all born into a simulation of sin passed down through the seed of Adam and Eve… So how do we overcome the curse? How is it possible to live a life free from all curses? Which is to be free from sin. Through Jesus. He is the daily bread that keeps us aright. Through His Word. Through His testimony. Through His Sacrifice. Through His Spirit. The Holy Spirit. Which is the Word of God. His Word teaches us. His Spirit giving us understanding in our Spirit when we pray and seek His Spirit He gives us discernment to understand our choices and to keep our minds on the testimony and examples of the Heroes of Faith, the Sons of Perdition and His beloved Son and His Sacrifice. Jesus' example demonstrates to us the power of Sacrifice, when He resurrected from death and the grave which is that He overcame the curse of sin and death.
But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. (21)
